Vintage Chemistry Engraving - Chemical Composition Of Water Stock Illustration

Vintage chemistry engraving - chemical composition of water - csp26620738

This contraption was meant to prove the exact chemical composition of water. In the two bottles on the left hydrogen was produced by oxidizing the zinc bits on the bottom of bottle A; no mention of bottle B or its function in the text (decoration? filter?); the three U-shaped pipes filtered and exiccated the hydrogen that was then run over hot copper oxide in the balloon F, and the resulting water was collected in the flask G.
